Poor Quality Images
If you are an AOL member, the images you see on the web are not what the rest of the world sees. AOL automatically compresses all images on a website. (It saves them money by lessening bandwidth.) Unfortunately, this compression also makes colors band and images appear grainy and blurry. There is nothing web designers and developers can do about it, but there is something you can do.

What You Can Do
AOL allows you to turn off this compression and you'll be able to see websites as they were intended. Follow the instructions below.

If you're using AOL 6.0 or 7.0

  1. Click on Settings, then on Preferences
  2. Under Organization, click on Internet Properties (WWW)
  3. Click Web Graphics, select Never compress graphics, then click OK.
  4. You need to restart your AOL software for the change to take effect.

If you're using AOL 4.0 or 5.0.

  1. Click on My AOL, then Preferences.
  2. Click on the WWW icon, then on Web Graphics.
  3. Uncheck the box marked Use Compressed Graphics, then click OK.
  4. You need to restart your AOL software for the change to take effect.

If you're using AOL 3.0

  1. Go to Members and then Preferences
  2. Then click on WWW then on Internet Properties.
  3. Uncheck the box marked Use Compressed Graphics, then click OK.
  4. You need to restart your AOL software for the change to take effect.

You're on your way to seeing the best the web has to offer. Congratulations!
